Playa Flamingo (Flamingo Beach) is one of Costa Rica's most popular beaches with fine white sand. It has pristine clear blue waters, lagoons, vegetation and abundance of activities. The Playa Flamingo area offers a wide variety of secluded beaches and lagoons due to the mountain formations reaching into the sea. It features hotels, lodging, luxury homes, entertainment, water, land and leisure activities.
Playa Flamingo is located in fairly close proximity to the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport. Playa Flamingo has two quite distinct seasons. The dry season runs from mid-November until early May. The wet or "green" season runs from mid-May to mid-November. During the dry season you can expect to see sunshine every day with next to no precipitation. During the wet season, most of the day tends to remain sunny with very strong rain happening most evenings and sometimes early mornings as well.
The area is possibly best known for its scuba diving. There are several dive shops in town which provide service to the Catalina Islands. These are a series of islands which protrude from the Pacific and are home to a huge amount of marine life including the majestic giant pacific manta. Many scuba diving shops also offer diving to nearby destinations such as the Bat Islands as well as diving in the Gulf de Papagayo.
Playa Tamarindo is the 9th district of the canton of Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, in the Republic of Costa Rica. Its main populations are Tamarindo, Villarreal, Santa Rosa, Garita Nueva, Hernández and San José de Pinilla. It is limited by the districts of Tempate, Twenty-seven of April and Santa Cruz, and bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean. Tamarindo, an old artisanal fishing village, is currently one of the most developed tourist communities and Sport fishing boats in Costa Rica. Its geographical and climatic conditions make it an ideal area for surfing and other water sports. Here you can also find most of the Las Baulas National Marine Park, the Tamarindo Natural Wildlife Refuge and the Grande, Langosta and Ventanas beaches, which together constitute the most important nesting area in the American Pacific of the leatherback turtle, the most world's largest, critically endangered.
Tamarindo is located in the canton of Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, and occupies an area of 123.53 km2. It is a coastal town without high elevations. It has several low altitude hills that are part of the Santa Elena geological formation (the oldest in the country), among which the hills Morro, El Negro, Boquerones, Los Coyotes, Zonchiche and Ventanas stand out, and two rivers cross the territory of the district: the Matapalo River and the San Francisco River, which flow directly into the Pacific Ocean in two large estuaries, which have important mangroves. Two other rivers, the San Andrés River and the Pinilla River, also cross the territory and are tributaries of Matapalo and San Francisco respectively, and are in turn fed by several streams, such as Honda, Chepa, Marroquín and Palmar. The district is bathed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean, being the bay of Tamarindo, part of the Gulf of Papagayo, the main geographical accident. This bay is located between Cape Velas and the San Francisco (or Madero) tip, and includes the Grande, Langosta and Ventanas beaches, as well as the Captain and Green Islands, located off the coast.
